Statuesque siren Rihanna stunned the MTV Video Music Awards Thursday night with a shocking pixie ‘do she exposed on the red carpet moments before kicking off the show.
But the 24-year-old Barbados beauty — who wound up taking home Video of the Year — obscured her
short coif with a red headband during her high-octane performance of “Cockiness (Love It)”/“We Found Love” at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

“I want you to be my sex slave,” she purred, perched on a gold throne. Rapper A$AP Rocky joined Rihanna on stage — at one point clutching the R&B songstress’ backside.
The 2012 VMAs opened an hour earlier than normal so that it wouldn’t conflict with prime-time coverage of the Democratic National Convention. But the show, known for its mix of lighthearted frivolity and shocking moments, came off rather tame compared with past years.
Still looming over the awards was the bottle-throwing brawl allegedly involving R&B crooner Chris Brown and hip-hop star Drake at Manhattan nightclub W.i.P. on June 14.

Both performers were in attendance Thursday but never appeared together — preventing any real fireworks.
Host-comedian Kevin Hart chalked up the pair’s beef to a “mistake,” joking that Drake, 25, simply threw a bottle because he was aiming for a recycling bin.
“Drake loves to recycle!” Hart quipped, adding, “It was over a mistake — nip it in the bud.”
To that, the camera panned to Drake lightly clapping.
Host Kevin Hart and his girlfriend Eniko arrived at the show. Hart later joked that Chris Brown and Drake weren't fighting, Drake just tossed the bottle and missed the recycle bin. The alleged beef was totally just a "mistake."
The night wasn’t a dud for him nor Brown, 23, who each picked up a Moonman trophy for Best Male Video and Best Hip-Hop Video, respectively.
Rihanna was shut out early on in the show when her pal Katy Perry presented Best Pop Video to British-Irish boy band One Direction, who also claimed Best New Artist.

By the end of the night, however, Rihanna was the big winner for her Video of the Year hit, “We Found Love.”
Another potential awkward moment was averted when Robert Pattinson and the cast of “Twilight” unveiled the trailer for the last movie in the film franchise — minus Kristen Stewart, who was in Toronto promoting another film.
