Sideshow: No longer a Dogg, but king of the beasts

"I want to bury Snoop Dogg."
That's not the bitter pronouncement of a disgruntled music critic. Those words come straight from Snoop Dogg, who has changed his name to Snoop Lion.
Snoop, 40, finally explained the sudden shift during a confab Monday night. He says he was hit with a thunderbolt from above during a visit to a Rastafarian temple in Jamaica.
"The high priest asked me what my name was, and I said, 'Snoop Dogg,' " the artist formerly known as Dogg is quoted as saying by the Huffington Post. "And he looked me in my eyes and said, 'No more. You are the light; you are the lion.' " Goosebumps, right?
It's not just the moniker he's changing. "Rap is not a challenge to me," says the newly minted reggae man, who has called himself Bob Marley reincarnated. "I've won every accolade you can get in rap . . . it's time to find something new."
What does Marley's son, Rohan, make of all this? "Music is universal," he said. "Jamaica is just a part of music, so we were open to Snoop."
Eva on politics, fashion
Eva Longoria is ticked off by the tenor of politics today, the Desperate Housewives alum tells Lucky mag, in an interview that had her double-tasking. She spent the time slipping into "a Gucci sheath dress with a chiffon bodice and velvet accents," the mag says.
"I think it's important that people who are politically active understand the other side as well," she says. "I just read the Ronald Reagan biography. When you're fighting for social justice, one of my biggest pet peeves is speaking out of ignorance." Eva's chat wasn't all frivolous. She also described her ideal outfit: "Pulling on a pair of embellished Topshop shorts. I like a leggy outfit."
Wanted: Cuba Gooding Jr.
New Orleans authorities have issued a misdemeanor battery warrant for Cuba Gooding Jr. after the Oscar winner allegedly shoved a female bartender in the wee hours Tuesday morning.
"Apparently, he pushed a bartender twice at the bar," a police rep tells Celebuzz.com. "He was apparently getting rowdy when people were trying to take photos, and he got aggravated." Cuba allegedly shoved the bartender when she tried to calm him down.
Swift bags another Kennedy?
Another triumph for country-pop princess Taylor Swift, who reportedly has made a successful incursion into America's royal family, the Kennedys. The New York Post says the Wyomissing-raised Taylor, 22, made googly eyes over the weekend with Robert F. Kennedy's grandson Connor Kennedy, 18.
Anonymous Source tells the Post that Taylor and Connor were seen (and photographed) displaying "extremely touchy-feely" behavior. They held hands, snuggled, and kissed while sailing, dining on pizza, and attending a party.
Taylor set wags tonguing over the July 4 weekend when she was seen hugging another Kennedy, Patrick Schwarzenegger, son of Maria Shriver and the Govinator, Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Has Swift, once an innocent darling's innocent darling, gone through too many men since surviving John Mayer? We worry.
K-Stew/R-Pat: Custody war!
Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson's romantic disentanglement has hit a snag. The former lovers "are embroiled in a bitter custody dispute" over their pooch Bear, whom they rescued from a New Orleans shelter. No issues over the cat, Max: K-Stew keeps him.
Katy Perry makes us proud
Katy Perry, 27, "has scored her ninth number 1 single at Top 40 and 10th consecutive number 1 single on the Dance/Club Play charts with 'Wide Awake,' a track from Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection, the special edition of her double-platinum certified album Teenage Dream, her record company, EMI Music, has announced. It adds, " 'Wide Awake' was written for her 3-D feature film Katy Perry: Part of Me, which has earned more than $24 million domestically." Yeah!

Suri Cruise held onto dad Tom Cruise's hand Monday as the newly single star took her on a tour of Disney's Magic Kingdom in Orlando, accompanied by Cruise sister Cass Mapother. . . . Bruce Willis-Demi Moore issue Scout Willis, a Brown U. coed who just turned 21, has been sentenced by a New York City court to two days of community service in her public-drinking and fake-ID case. . . . Jill Scott, Drake, the Hives, and a reunited Run-D.M.C. have been added to the Jay-Z- and Pearl Jam-headlined Budweiser Made in America Festival, set for Sept. 2 and 3 on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.
