Adrian Peterson on arrest: The 'truth will surface'
Jul 08, 2012By Matt Eppers, USA TODA
We are certain that Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was arrested at a Houston nightclub early Saturday morning.
Far more uncertain, though, are the circumstances and events that led to Peterson's arrest.
The All-Pro running back is among those waiting for all the details of the incident to emerge.
On Sunday, Peterson thanked fans on Twitter for waiting until all the facts came out before jumping to conclusions and said the "truth will surface."
As to the conflicting stories about what led to his arrest, Peterson quoted the late, great Winston Churchill:
"A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on."
According to a Houston Police Department spokesperson, Peterson was at a downtown nightclub when an off-duty police officer working security began to clear the club because it was closing.
Peterson reportedly wanted a drink of water before leaving, shouting allegedly ensued, and eventually Peterson was taken into custody.
The native of nearby Palestine, Texas, was booked and charged with resisting arrest. He was released a few hours later on $1,000 bond.
A team spokesman said the Vikings "are aware of the situation and are gathering more information."
