Anyone who found schooling a trial will be encouraged to know that Albert Einstein did too. In fact this German-born Nobel Prize winner, whose name has become synonymous with genius, felt so out of place in an academic institution that he left at 15 with no formal qualifications.
Considered one of the great scientific brains of the modern world, young Albert didn't talk until he was five either – but suddenly burst out into full sentences as if waiting until he had something weighty to say. He did. Einstein's most singular talent was cogitating upon the big questions – time,

People generally have children in order to reproduce their own imperfect selves and try to make them more perfect.
This is a legitimate, if slightly warped, activity -- yet we tolerate it for what we imagine is a social good.

Cinco de Mayo on May 13? Sounds like a joke, but it’s happening this year.
The 11th edition of the popular Cinco de Mayo Festival in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park will take place Sunday, May 13, instead of the usual first Sunday of May.
Organizers are making the most of it, deciding to celebrate not only the anniversary of the Battle of Puebla but also Mother’s Day, two themes they call dear to the Mexican community.

By CHUCK BARTELS | Associated Press 5/2/2012 SEARCY, Ark. (AP) — An Arkansas woman who cashed a $1 million lottery ticket may have to give up the winnings to a woman who threw away the ticket after she bought it, according to a judge's ruling Tuesday.
The judge decided that Sharon Duncan was entitled to the prize money, not Sharon Jones, who claimed the prize money after she took the ticket from a trash can of discarded lottery tickets at a convenience store in Beebe, a city about 40 miles northeast of Little Rock.
Jones' attorney, James Simpson, said he plans to appeal. Jones had testified that she already spent some of the money on a new truck and cash gifts to her children.
Simpson noted that Duncan testified she threw away the ticket after the read-out on a ticket scanner said, "Sorry. Not a winner." The attorney argued that people shouldn't be allowed to throw items away and then say, "'ooh, I want to un-abandon it.'"
"We'd have garage-sale law all over the place," he said. "It became trash when someone threw it away."
White County judge Thomas Hughes, however, said Jones never met the burden of proof that Duncan abandoned her right to claim $1 million.
"The $1 million was never found money," Hughes said.
Earlier Tuesday, Jones testified that she gathered a handful of discarded tickets from the trash can — as she had done many times before — and said there was no sign alerting customers not to take tickets.

Remember Donald Trump's frown when comedian Seth Meyers lampooned him about his hair and political aspirations?
"Donald Trump has been saying that he will run for president as a Republican, which is surprising, since I just assumed he was running as a joke," said Meyers.
Taking his turn, President Barack Obama credited Trump with making hard decisions -- such as firing Gary Busey over Meatloaf on an episode of "The Celebrity Apprentice."
Brazil sex worker may sue U.S. embassy over injuries
(Reuters) - A former Brazilian prostitute plans to sue the United States embassy and five of its personnel for injuries sustained outside a strip club late last year, complicating the second of two embarrassing incidents to emerge recently involving American officials and sex workers in South America.
Romilda Aparecida Ferreira, 31, and her lawyer said they plan to file suit for injuries, medical expenses, lost income, and psychological trauma after an embassy van ran over her and left her stranded in the club parking lot with a broken collarbone, punctured lung and other injuries. The incident occurred December 29 when an embassy driver was dispatched to the club to pick up three marines and one civilian staffer.
A civil suit would compound a case in which Brazilian prosecutors have already said they are considering criminal charges, including assault and failure to provide assistance to an injured person. It also threatens to further tarnish the image of overseas U.S. personnel in the wake of a separate scandal involving U.S. Secret Service members and prostitutes in Cartagena, Colombia, earlier this month.
Little noticed at the time, the incident in BrasĂlia, Brazil's capital, gained traction this week when a local reporter asked U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, then on a visit to the country, about what happened. Panetta said the United States had investigated the matter, "severely punished" the marines, and pulled them out of Brazil.
