MOSCOW, May 23 (Xinhua) -- The aim of the Syrian armed opposition is to undermine the peace plan implemented by the U.N. and Arab League envoy Kofi Annan, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Wednesday.
"The aim is obvious -- to disrupt the peace plan of Kofi Annan," Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told reporters.
Lavrov said that the Syrian opposition and their supporting countries have violated the UN resolutions.
"All this is happening with the gross violation of the U.N. Security Council's resolutions which entirely approved that plan and which demands not only the government but all opposition groups too, including armed ones, to stop violence immediately," Lavrov said.
Moscow had repeatedly called on officials in Damascus to follow Annan's plan, Lavrov said, adding that the current situation is like a "one way game."
"It is impossible to play one way game, when the government is expected to unconditionally implement the plan and the opposition has not only been restricted but, in effect, is encouraged to continue armed provocations," Lavrov said.
He also expressed Moscow's concerns over the possibility of the conflict in Syria spreading to neighboring Lebanon. "The end could be very bad," he said.
